Disinformation and Propaganda as Tools of Influence in Cyber Space
Ray, Atandra ; Erkomashvili, David (vedoucí práce) ; Špelda, Petr (oponent)
1 Information is a vital instrument for waging war against an adversary. In the past, information was utilised as an addition to the element of physical warfare. In the modern era, winning the informational aspect is as important as winning the physical one. The term hybrid warfare has been utilised extensively in security studies and international relations-related discourse since the Russian annexation of Crimea in 2014. When distilled from the inherent vagueness surrounding the definition of hybrid warfare, it can be opined that hybrid warfare is a mix of conventional and unconventional means of warfare, often utilising the tools of deception, sabotage and disinformation. When distilled from the inherent vagueness surrounding the definition of hybrid warfare, it can be opined that hybrid warfare is a mix of conventional and unconventional means of warfare, often utilising the tools of deception, sabotage and disinformation. Through disinformation, hybrid warfare permeates not only military personnel but also affects ordinary civilians who are not in an active zone of conflict. The role of this thesis will be to do a comparative analysis between Russian and Chinese Information Operations and the way they co-opt each other time and again.

CHARLES UNIVERSITY FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES Master of International Security Systems Anastasiya Neskoromna/Rieger Impact of COVID 19 on Security Policies of States in the Area of Cyber Security Abstract Prague 2022 Author: Ms. Anastasiya Neskoromna/Rieger Supervisor: prof. David Erkomashvile, Ph.D.
5G Security - A Case Study on the Securitisation of Sweden's 5G Networks
Ekfeldt, Therese ; Erkomashvili, David (vedoucí práce) ; Špelda, Petr (oponent)
Over the last couple of years, the world has witnessed an intensifying competition over 5G networks, triggered to a large extent but not exclusively by the geopolitical rivalry between the United States and China. To the backdrop of allegations that the Chinese government could force Chinese telecom company Huawei and ZTE to spy, sabotage or take other action's on Beijing's behalf, Washington ordered prompt restrictions on products from Huawei and pressured its allies to do the same. From a European perspective, Sweden stood out early as a country with a strong stance on 5G security by outright banning Chinese telecom providers Huawei and ZTE from taking part in Sweden's 5G frequency auction. This thesis seeks to understand how the securitising process of Sweden's 5G networks was initiated and evolved, through a comparative case study of the four main securitising actors' official discourses. Derived from previous studies on cybersecurity and securitisation, this thesis constructed an analytical framework tailored for the securitisation of 5G networks. The thesis is carried out as an idea analysis, looking for articulated threats pertaining to three distinct threat dimensions: 'network security', 'data and information protection' and 'China's assertiveness'. The analysis showed that all four...
Psychology of Phishing Attacks During Crises: The Case of Covid-19 Pandemic
Výsledky přispívají do oblasti psychologie, počítačové kriminality i krizového řízení. Klíčová slova COVID-19, phishing, sociální inženýrství, psychologie, přesvědčování, krize, pandemie, impersonace, pretexting
Shadow warrior: The outsourcing of the United States' offensive cyber capabilities
Jones, Ashley ; Erkomashvili, David (vedoucí práce) ; Fitzgerald, James (oponent)
The cyberspace has emerged as a conscientious topic for military leaders and senior policymakers as they attempt to ensure critical national infrastructure is secured against cyberattacks. The previous decade has seen the re-emergence of the state actor as a primary threat actor; a large-scale threat actor that is heavily funded, well equipped, and has the ability to avoid legal ramifications for their actions. The cyberspace presented new opportunities of attack and manoeuvre below the threshold of armed response and has transformed the way conflicts are fought and disputes are resolved. This dissertation aims to analyse the effect that the private sector has on the United States' offensive cyber capabilities. Specifically, this research will answer the question of 'How does the private sector support the development of the United States offensive cyber capabilities?' To meet the growing threat of cyber warfare, new organisational structures were rapidly devised and established within the U.S. Department of Defense. Literature on the two key themes, the cyberspace as a strategic capability and the cyberspace as an outsourced commodity, was reviewed to determine the factors contributing to the increase in outsourcing offensive cyber capabilities. Then a qualitative case study on the newest branch...
