Siltation of the Jirkov and Křímov water reservoirs
Němečková, Pavla ; Šobr, Miroslav (advisor) ; Chalupová, Dagmar (referee)
This bachelor's thesis contains detailed physical and geographical characteristics of the area and the comparison of the bathymetric methods. In the practical part it is focused on water reservoirs Křímov and Jirkov, which were built in the 1950s and 1960s. The main goal is to find out current conditions of water reservoirs using Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) RiverSurveyor M9 on the float, which offers automatic data saving. The bathymetric maps are created in ArcGIS Pro 3.0.2 by processing the measured data from 2022 and using the Kriging interpolation method. The current volume is compared to data from digitalized historical maps. The difference between these data gives us the amount of sediments and also the change of volume in every depth level. The current volume of WR Křímov corresponds to 1.31 mil. m3 , there was 6.4% silting compared to operating regulations. The Jirkov water reservoir has a current volume of 1.95 million m3 , in comparison to the operating regulations, there was only 3% silting. Key words: WR Křímov - WR Jirkov - bathymetric mapping - siltation
Water quality analysis in the Mastník catchment area
Mrkva, Luboš ; Janský, Bohumír (advisor) ; Chalupová, Dagmar (referee)
The quality of surface water in the Czech Republic has changed distinctly in two last decades. The pollution of important rivers has been reduced radically. Small rivers in agricultural areas, however, remain problematic. There is a long-term absence of information about such rivers concerning the purity of water. Mastník, which flows through the agricultural area of Central Bohemian Uplands and as a right-hand side tributary flow into the Vltava River, is one of those rivers. Quality circumstances in catchment area were analysed on the basis of data about the concentration of selected indicators, which come from three monitored profiles of the State public enterprise Povodí Vltavy. The present state of surface water quality was specified by means of ČSN 75 7221. Further, the development of quality was observed since 1995 and the reliance of the concentration on the flow or the season of the year was rated. All the data, which were acquired about anthropogenic and natural pollution of the river, are very important for precautions, which lead towards the improvement of quality of water in rivers. It was discovered that the precautions, which are made in catchment area lead to the improvement of the quality of water in Mastník. If the present state should be retained, the remediation of waste water must be...
Variability of water quality parameters in selected reservoirs in Prague
Stará, Eva ; Ettler, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Chalupová, Dagmar (referee)
Small water reservoirs in urban areas have important landscape-forming and environmental roles. However, numerous anthropogenic activities can influence the water quality in these urban ponds. This thesis evaluates and compares the water quality in selected ponds in Prague area (Motol, Stodůlky, Háje) by means of regular water monitoring between May and November 2013. Parameters commonly used as indicators of anthropogenic load were monitored (NO3 - , NH4 + , PO4 3- , Cl- , dissolved oxygen, chemical oxygen demand) and supplemented with the investigation of other chemical and physico-chemical parameters (alkalinity, acidity, water hardness, pH, Ca2+ , NO2 - , specific conductivity). Data were evaluated using Czech technical norm (ČSN - EN 75 7221), which defines five categories of surface water quality. Our data indicated that surface water from reservoirs in Motol exhibited the best water quality (1st category), reservoirs from Stodůlky were slightly polluted and reservoirs from Háje exhibited the poorest water quality (with some parameters exhibiting values corresponding to the 4th category). We found statistically significant correlations between the alkalinity, water hardness, COD and concentrations of NO3 - , Ca2+ , Cl- and PO4 3- . Moreover, numerous parameters are dependent on cumulative...
Water and sediment chemistry of fluvial lakes of the Elbe River
Chalupová, Dagmar ; Janský, Bohumír (advisor) ; Jelínek, Emil (referee) ; Benešová, Libuše (referee)
The presented paper aims at the problems of fluvial lakes in middle course of the Elbe River which has been influenced by the human activity since the Middle Ages. The oxbow lakes which are extremely precious ecosystems contributing to the stability of the river ecosystem show not only the changes of the course of the Elbe River. With regard to sedimenting a great amount of pollutants, these lakes also tell about the industrial pollution to which the river was exposed mainly in the second half of the 20th century due to insufficient precautions on industrial sources causing contamination. 5 cut lakes between Hradec Králové and Mělník have been studied within this research. These lakes differ in the intensity of communication with the river, in the distance from significant sources of industrial pollution and in the use of nearby land. The research included morphometric and bathymetric measures, observation of hydrological regime, seasonal measures in the water column and regular analysis of surface water samples. Profiles of sediments in the length that the used technology allowed were sampled, so that older anthropogenic load could be found out. The amount of organic carbon and concentration of selected metal and arsenic (Ag, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, Mn, Pb and Zn) were stated apart from grain size...
Limnological conditions, water and sediment quality in oxbow lake Doleháj near Kolín
Chalupová, Dagmar
2 Abstract The diploma work is a complex limnological study dealing with the history and the present situation of the oxbow lake of Doleháj near Kolín. The research included different ways of investigation - genesis and evolution of the lake, morphography, water level fluctuation, physical parameters of water, basic chemical analysis of water, quality and quantity of phytoplankton and zooplankton, size structure of zooplankton and heavy metals in sediments. The oxbow lake came into existence during the canalization of the Elbe River in the half of the 19th century. It was divided into three parts in the past. The last one, with an island, was chosen for the research. This part has an area of 77 500 m2 and it is quite shallow - mean depth is 1,08m, maximum depth is 2,70 m (the altitude of water surface was 191,754 m above sea level). The water level fluctuated between 191,544 m and 191,754 m above sea level during the hydrological year 2000/2001. The Secchi desk depths varied from 30 to 40 cm. The water of the lake was polluted with organic compounds (BOD5 = 6,12 - 12,62 mg/l; CODMn = 14,08 - 41,60 mg/l). According to the low concentration of phosphate phosphorus, it is possible, that primary productivity in this lake can be limited by this element. Total dissolved inorganic nitrogen varied between...
Siltation of the Újezd water reservoir
Kebertová, Daniela ; Šobr, Miroslav (advisor) ; Chalupová, Dagmar (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on the siltation of water bodies. In April 2020 the first accurate and detailed bathymetric survey of the Újezd water reservoir was conducted using an ADCP RiverSurveyor M9. The aim of the measurement was to determine volume of the reservoir after 39 years since its construction. The obtained data was processed in ArcMap 10.7.1 using the kriging method of interpolation. Based on it a new bathymetric map of current state of the reservoir was created. For the sake of understanding the causes of siltation, a complex physical-geographic characteristics of the upper stream basin of Bílina river, on which the Újezd water reservoir is situated, had been done. The river basin is fundamentally anthropogenically influenced by water supply system and mining activities. The volume of the reservoir at a water surface area of 117.20 ha was shown to be 4718364 m3 , 1.63% larger, compared to the values 4642640 m3 and 120.75 ha presented in the management manual for the waterwork. The volumes are comparable which indicates that there is no significant amount of siltation and the reservoir became a naturally functional and sustainable ecosystem.
Siltation of the Kadaň water reservoir
Kuchynková, Jindřiška ; Šobr, Miroslav (advisor) ; Chalupová, Dagmar (referee)
The Kadaň water reservoir was built on the river Ohře in 1971. It is considered as a deepend river bed rather then the water reservoir . As with others water reservoirs, there continues to be happening an intense siltation with various types of sediments. This bachelor thesis aims to identify a current state and the change that has passed over the last 18 years and based on those obtained informations create a bathymetric map. The thesis is based on data from 1984, 2000 and my own field mapping in 2018. For measuring water depths I used a system RiverSurveyor. The data were processed in programs Microsoft Office Excel and ArcMap. For creating a bathymetric map I used a Kriging interpolation method. The results showed that compared to year 2000, the siltation has increased by 5%. Currently, the reservoir is silted by 47%. It is located in an area of 545 941 m2 and its volume amounts to 1 385 862 m3 . In 1972, when the reservoir was filled, it had a volume of 2 620 000 m3 . According to the results of measuerement we can conclude that over the last 46 years there has been created 1 234 138 m3 of sediments in the reservoir.
Water quality and the assessment of anthropogenic pollution in the sediments of the Elber River oxbow lakes
Beranová, Lucie ; Chalupová, Dagmar (advisor) ; Havlíková, Petra (referee)
In this thesis, water quality and the assessment of anthropogenic pollution in the sediments of the middle course of the Elbe River oxbow lakes Kozelská and Vrť were studied. It is widely accepted that the oxbow lakes are extremely significant ecosystems, However, a large amount of contaminated material may deposit in these lakes. The pollution probably comes from industrial sources of contamination from the second half of the 20th century. In addition, the oxbow lakes show the development of the riverbed, and contribute to the stability of the river ecosystem. The research of Lake Kozelská was chosen especially to its proximity to the chemical factory Spolana in Neratovice, which used to be the biggest source of pollution of the Elbe River. The research included bathymetric measurements, regular observations of hydrological regime, monthly analysis of chemical and physical parameters of water in the period from December 2016 to November 2017, and marginally microscopic analyses of phytoplankton and zooplankton species too. The next part of this research included grain analysis and determination of metal and arsenic concentrations in the sediment fraction of 20µm using Aqua Regia leaching and total decomposition as well. Concerning water quality assessment, these lakes were characterized by higher...
