Analyzing the Impact of Czech Economic Development on Carbon Emissions: VAR Model Approach
Shi, Xueyan ; Fiřtová, Magdalena (vedoucí práce) ; Akdogan, Idil (oponent) ; Čech, František (oponent)
The Czech Republic has experienced steady and continuous economic growth since acceded to the European Union. However, at the same time, the increasingly frequent global geological disasters are a constant reminder that the Earth's environment seems to be undergoing even more severe damage. Behind industrial development, technological progress and improving people's lives are increasing carbon emissions. The Czech Republic's carbon emissions are among the highest in Central and Eastern European countries, and the substantial carbon emissions bring serious consequences. The Czech Republic has gradually recognised the seriousness of this problem. It has started introducing a series of relevant policies, laws, and regulations to change the economic growth model, hoping to reduce carbon emissions and improve the natural environment. Based on this, this paper studies the impact of economic growth on carbon dioxide. This paper first selects GDP per capita, industrial structure, and foreign trade dependence as the indicators of economic growth. Then it discusses the theoretical basis and influence mechanism of the impact of economic growth indicators on carbon emissions. By collating the relevant data on economic growth and carbon emissions in the Czech Republic from 1990-2019, the relationship between...
The Political and Economic Influence of the 16+1 Initiative on CEE Countries: Focus on Visegrad Group
K dosažení těchto cílů provádí tato studie ekonometrickou a srovnávací analýzu existujících údajů o přímých zahraničních investicích a obchodních tocích z databáze Eurostatu, databází Světové banky, databází akademických časopisů a publikací a databáze OSN Comrade.

Assessing the Impact of Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Areas on Foreign Trade: the EU-Georgia, EU-Moldova, and EU-Ukraine DCFTAs Abstract The Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Areas (DCFTAs) are three free trade areas established between the EU and Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine, respectively. This paper provides the estimates on the effects of the DCFTAs on foreign trade. Using gravity model on a sample of 178 countries during 2002-2019, we obtain the following results. First, the DCFTAs have significantly enhanced the trade between the EU and three countries, and also facilitated the exports of other countries to the EU and three countries, while the exports of the opposite direction have been restrained by the DCFTAs. Second, the positive influence of the DCFTA on the trade with the EU is significant for Ukraine, and not significant for Georgia and Moldova. Third, in terms of the Central European countries, the DCFTAs have promoted the trade with three countries for Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia, whereas the positive effect is not significant in cases of Austria, Germany, and Poland. For Slovenia, the impact is also insignificant but negative. Fourth, the full implementation of the DCFTAs has additional contribution to the trade between three countries and Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia....
Mass Privatisation and Privatised Firms' Performance in the Post-Privatisation Era: Empirical Evidence from the Czech Republic, Poland, and the Slovak Republic
Wang, Yanyi ; Szobi, Pavel (vedoucí práce) ; Akdogan, Idil (oponent) ; Čech, František (oponent)
This study used panel data on 25 privatised firms from the Czech Republic, Poland, and Slovakia from 2000 to 2019 to explore the impact of different MPS on firm performance in the post-privatisation era. This paper then explored two main research questions: 1) The 2008 financial crisis presented problems for corporations with different governance models. How did firms built utilising various MPS models perform differently across the three countries in this context? 2) What factors would affect the performance of privatised firms in the post-privatisation era? Additionally, this study first used the Wilcoxon signed rank test to analyse six performance variables for the sample firms for eight years before and after 2008. The researcher then chose the corporate governance index (GOV) and shareholder return (ROSF) as the main explanatory variables and did a random effects regression analysis of privatised firm performance. Finally, the paper had two main findings: 1) The financial crisis had a more significant impact on the Czech Republic and Slovakia but had a more negligible influence on Poland. 2) During the post-privatisation era, GOV did not distinctly affect privatised company performance, while ROSF had a more substantial explanatory power for performance based on market development and policy...
A study on the impact of EU's eastward expansion on carbon emissions of Central and Eastern European member states-- taking imported waste resources as an example
Meng, Kai ; Semerák, Vilém (vedoucí práce) ; Akdogan, Idil (oponent) ; Szobi, Pavel (oponent)
The main purpose of this paper is to take the carbon emissions from import and export wastes as an example to study the impact of Central and Eastern European countries on their carbon emissions after joining the European Union. First of all, this paper introduces the theories and hypotheses related to trade and environment, and then clarifies the influence mechanism of EU eastward expansion on waste carbon emissions of CEE member states, including the impact of EU eastward expansion on waste trade flows in CEE member states and the effects of trade on carbon emissions. Based on this, it is concluded that: (1) joining the EU increases the carbon emissions of imported wastes from the new Central and Eastern European member states; (2) the industrial structure has a positive impact on environmental carbon emissions; (3) the number of labor force significantly promotes environmental carbon emissions, that is, the higher the number of labor force, the more carbon emissions; (4) the level of economic development has an inhibitory effect on carbon emissions, but not significantly. Finally, the full text is summarized and policy recommendations are put forward.
Global Financial Crisis: causes and consequences - The case of developed vs developing economies in CEE region
Některé země byly postiženy velmi výrazně a zažily pokles HDP, nárůst nezaměstnanosti atd. Nicméně, jiné země byly zasaženy mírně, případně přímé dopady na ně nebyly viditelné. Podobně i země střední a východní Evropy (SVE) zažily velmi diferencovaný průběh krize.
Does the Eurozone crisis bring similar effects to the economic growth of peripheral countries of EU? A research to investigate effects of the Eurozone crisis on the economic growth of the Eurozone peripheral countries and the non-Eurozone CEE countries
Li, Peiwei ; Szobi, Pavel (vedoucí práce) ; Svoboda, Karel (oponent) ; Akdogan, Idil (oponent)
Peiwei Li Abstraktní: Tento dokument má prozkoumat, zda krize v eurozóně přináší podobné účinky jako hospodářský růst dvou skupin periferních zemí EU, včetně zemí PIIGS a CEE.
