Economics and management of selected retail business
VALDMAN, Zdeněk
The aim of this thesis was to evaluate and to analyze economics of selected retail business and on the basis of the gained information to define recommendations to improvement. The selected company was Czech Computer, s. r. o., which has been belonging to the biggest companies in the Czech ICT market for several years. In order to achieve the aim, a financial analysis was used as a base for evaluation of the economic situation. For the analysis of company neighbourhood, Porter´s Five Forces Model has been used. The evaluation of external and internal milieu has been carried out using the SWOT analysis. As data sources, corporate reports from the 2006 to 2010 were used. In the theoretical part, I described the definition of trade, its function and importance. Further I focused on retail, its definition and description of retail activities and of retail units. In the next section, I dealt with a company, its life cycle, strategy and mission and with analysis of its sources and surroundings. In the practical part, I focused on financial analysis and on a synoptical depiction of progress of particular indicators using grapfic illustrations and scoreboards. Based on comparison of calculated results with the recommended values, on data from Porter´s Model and from the SWOT analysis, I tried to describe the up-to-date economic situation of the company and to define recommendations. The first hypothesis claiming that the company revenue grows every year has been refuted by the help of data from the profit and loss account. The second hypothesis focused on the financial situation of the company and claimed that the company was in good financial condition regarding the standard financial indicators. This hypothesis could be confirmed by virtue of very high value of the Altman Z-score.
