Using games to cultivate key competencies in kindergarten

The bachelor thesis focuses on the processing of ideas and didactic recommendations based on the use of several selected logic games in pre-school education. The focus of the theoretical part is on a game in the mirror of history. It compares game theories that have evolved over time and been based on the opinion and view of the child, as well as the analysis and researches which have been conducted in the past. It also includes game features that shows us if the activity we are observing or planning to do with children, is really a game. It seperates games according to teachings of three different authors, and also specifics in the development of a play in preschool children. The last part explains the key competences, lists the key competencies that are specify in the Framework Education Program for Pre-school Education, and describes how a kindergarten teacher should work with children to make the most of these key competencies. The practical part of the thesis focuses on three selected games, and works with the professional pieces of knowledge which are described in the theoretical part. The main aim of the thesis is to describe the differences in using the game in different periods of the preschool age and to define, according to the obtained findings, the best methodological recommendations on how to use the game in order to evolve the development of key competences in preschool children. Several experiments were carried out in three different kindergartens and three age groups to obtain the material for the practical part. I further analyzed the transcripts in order to formulate methodological recommendations.
