STRŽÍNKOVÁ, Monika
The bachelor thesis deals with the anti-war play "Mother Courage and her children" by the German writer Bertolt Brecht, the historical-political background in the time of the origin of this work and the author's life in exile. The main part of the work focuses on influences of the epic theatre and its elements on the development of the main characters Mutter Courage, Eilif, Schweizerkas and Kattrin. Besides the characteristics and attitudes to the war of these characters, the linguistic aspect is analysed as well. The aim is to interpret the main idea of the theatre play and author's intention to write it. This play is also used to explain the concept of the epic theatre and the artistic conception of the author's theatre genre.
