Are nurses taking care of their health?
SMRŽOVÁ, Michaela
This bachelor thesis dealt with a question whether nurses care for their own health. The definition of health is clear. World Health Organisation defined health as a state of a complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of illness or injury in 1948. Hamplová (2015) says that perceiving health only as the absence of illness or injury is incomplete and it does not correspond with miscellany of the term. It is very important to care for our health and not to neglect the care due to the number of the factors influenced by health. Caring for health should be important for every person and it should be more important for sanitationist. This thesis consists of a theoretic part and a research. The theoretic part defines health, its determinants, focuses on lifestyle. It also characterises nurse, her work with or without specialization. Next two chapters deal with care for physical health, manipulation with patients and preventive medical check-ups. The end of the theoretic part deals with care for mental health and prevention of burnout syndrome. The second part of the thesis is a research. We chose a representative sample of ten nurses who work for one-shift or two-shifts and we compared their healthcare. According to the provided answers, we found that sisters often take care of health by trying to follow the diet and movement, while the area care about the psyche of the slightly stagnant. A very positive result in our work was that the sisters except for small exceptions to comply with in a large range of prevention, compliance with hygiene in the area of employment, which include disinfection, sterilization and waste sorting. The method of the research is a quantitative research which included structured interviews with partly structuralised questions.
