Rubanová, Kateřina ; Havlová, Radka (advisor) ; Novotná, Yvona (referee)
This thesis is a description of current relations between the State of Israel and the Russian Federation, the roots of which can be found in the 18th century. Then the Russian Empire became home of the the largest Jewish population in the world. The text first describes the coexistence of this population with local Russian citizens, its development, and state attempts to form laws containing the rules of Jewish existence in the Russian Empire. It further mentions reasons leading to the decision of many Russian Jews to leave the Empire for Palestine, found a country and declare the establishment of the State of Israel. The second half of this thesis contains information concerning major Arab-Israeli wars which influenced the development of relations between Israel and Russia/the Soviet Union. It describes the Soviet role in resolving the Arab-Israeli conflict and foundations of Soviet-Palestinian relations. The last part of this thesis contains the development of relations between post-soviet Russia and Israel, their economic cooperation, an introduction to the Russian parties in the Israeli parliament, and internal aspects and entities which are able to influence actions of the other country.
