Prouzová, Marie ; Kasáková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Klípa, Ondřej (referee)
Bachelor dissertation "Polish Immigrants in the United Kingdom after 2004" deals with one of the most important current migration flows within the European Union and its effects. The time limit of this dissertation is from the EU enlargement of 2004 to 2010, when the Labour government of that era lost the UK general election. The number of Polish immigrants who came after the enlargement of 2004 increased the existing Polish diaspora several times over. Nationals of newly accessed countries were allowed to work in Britain (in contrast to most major countries) without any additional work permits. That was one of the reasons why many more immigrants came into this country compared to predictions. The dissertation deals with types of employment of Polish immigrants in the UK labour market and whether these immigrants have had a positive or negative impact on British economy. It examines the social context of this migration including the socio-demographic profile of the immigrants. Further it looks at perception of this migration flow by the British population and the integration of Poles within British society.
