The Phenomenon of Stodolni Street
Podolská, Dominika ; Dvořák, Jan (advisor) ; Olmová-Jarnotová, Alice (referee)
Annotation The aim of my bachelor work ?The Phenomenon of The Stodolni Street in Ostrava? is to describe the creation and development of the very high concentration of clubs, pubs, bars and restaurants, which, in a very short period of time, has produced the untypical and fascinating location known as the Stodolni Street phenomenon. My work has gathered information from a variety of sources to throw light on the history of the city boroughs of Moravska Ostrava and Privoz; with emphasis on the location of Stodolni Street and its primary neighborhood. This work has also attempted to catch the mood and the atmosphere of the earliest evolution of the ?café? culture and hospitality in that area, but not forgetting the reality of the coal-mining history of Ostrava town and the region in general; which had a fundamental impact on it economic and cultural development. The work is focusing on both the history and also the current situation in local theatre, and in cultural life in general and also takes into account the tourist trade in the region. Work is trying to find out whether and when the creation of the cultural/club scene was of benefit to the local community and also to establish the reasons for gradual breakdown of Stodolni Street. In my work I could not forget mentioning other associated phenomena of this untypical location: the security, political influence, the attitude of the local politicians in regards to this phenomenon and even the practical-joke political campaigns - all these, I feel, are necessary elements of Stodolni Street.
