This thesis deals with the role of Indian women in society, their rights, gender inequality and the impact of religion on their status. The aim of this work is to refer the real situation of women in India and their struggle to improve and implement women´s rights, among other ways also through Gulabi Gang movement. The work is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part deals with the legal status of women in India, gender inequality in politics, education and religion. The practical part is focused on civic society group Gulabi Gang and contains also a development project proposal for a community centre for Gulabi Gang.
