Petr Brandl and his self-portraits
PETRÁŠKOVÁ, Diana
This bachelor's work Petr Brandl and his self-portraits is to be set on the life and work of a baroque painter of the late 17th century and the 1st half of the 18th century Petr Brandl (1668-1735). After a brief introduction to the painting of the 17th century the text is focusing mainly on the most significant masterpieces of Brandl's in the context of the baroque art in the Czech surroundings, possible influences that might affect his work, and the crucial aspects of his life in chronological order. Afterward, the study is concentrating special attention, as it says in the title, on the issue of the self-portrait in Brandl's paintings, his self-reflection and the role of these works in his life, which had been analysed for the last time by Jaromír Neumann, and the matter of self-portrait itself and it's historical relevance. The major aim of this work is to gather up the new findings of the painter Petr Brandl and to present some of my thesis touching Brandl's self-portraits linking that with the previous research.
