The destinies of women in the asylum home in Tabor
PERNÍKOVÁ, Dana
My thesis focuses on the fates of women living in the Sanctuary Home in Tábor. The theoretical part deals with sanctuary homes and related services in general. I concentrated on competencies of a social worker pursuant to the Social Service Act 108/2006 Col. as well as on definition of sanctuary houses. I also dealt with domestic violence in this part. The practical part includes a research performed by means of a semi structured dialogue based on predefined topics. The dialogues took place directly at the Sanctuary Home for women and mothers with children in Tábor. Seven clients were asked about their financial situation, about the past, things related to their living in the Sanctuary Home, their children and also their future. I was interested in their vision for the future and their biggest wishes. A social worker employed in the institution always gave me feedback to the questioned clients. A set of research questions, which I answered in the summary of the results, had been prepared. Most of the respondents got to the facility because of financial problems, not because of domestic violence as I had anticipated. The next research question was whether the respondents had had similar experience in the past. Here I learnt that five of seven respondents had and had had problems with their primary families. I also asked what services the respondents utilized. Six respondents of seven mostly utilize the facultative consultation. Only two respondents use social consultation. Another research question dealt with adherence to the house rules. My research showed that four respondents of seven breached the house rules. Mostly by smoking at the residential unit, which is forbidden. Another research question was about mutual relations between the clients and relations to the staff. Negative relations prevail here as four respondents of seven confirmed and one respondent has no relations at all within the facility. To the question how they imagine their future all the respondents answered that they did not know but they wanted their own living and privacy.
