PÁNKOVÁ, Kamila
The thesis examines social care of Czech children and youth in the thirties of the 20th century in Czechoslovakia. The objective of this study is to explore the evolution of social and legal protection of children as provided by charity groups. The charities were established as voluntary based associations by people who wanted to help and care for at risk, abandoned or orphaned children in the early 20th century. Originally established as supporting bodies of the state, their activities consisted in the payment of various subsidies or contributions to vulnerable families, and in organizing food or cloth donations. Charities as the supporting bodies evolved in executive authorities with the adoption of the Law on Protection of Children in the care of alien and illegitimate children in 1921. Under this law, charities were entrusted with the supervision of children in foster care and of illegitimate children. Czech central committee for the care of youth in the Czech Republic and the Czech district youth welfare established in different judicial districts were the most significant associations engaged in the care of Czech children. The second part of this thesis accounts the activities of Czech central provincial committee for the care of youth in the Czech Republic in 1929 and 1930 and presents examples of the activities of the Czech district youth welfare in the region of Tachov between the years 1931-1933.
