The Aimsof Marriage in Canon Law

The Goals of Marriage in Canon Law The objective of the diploma thesis is to provide overview and analysis of development of conception of goals of marriage and their mutual relationship towards Canon law from the publication of the Code of Canon law in 1917 to present. In context of the Second Vatican Council, it aims to describe the major changes in conception of goals of marriage and their relationship and it examines and compares Codes of Canon Law from 1917 and 1984 including analysis of selected documents of magisterium concerned. Firstly, the thesis outlines the study of Saint Augustine and study of Thomas Aquinas about the goods and goals of marriage, then in succession to them, it focuses on definition of goals of marriage in Code of Canon Law from 1917 and it discusses also the threefold blessings according to encyclical Casti cinnubii. The second Vatican Council is concidered an a significant milestone in conception of goals of marriage, particularly in outline and evaluation of respective passages in two conceptions of goals of marriage in crucial documents Lumen Gentium and Gaudium et spes emphasizing these also in the subsequent encyclical Humanae vitae.
