Two Czech translations of "Marktplatz der Sensationen" by Egon Erwin Kisch

This thesis explores the book of memoirs written by famous Prague-bom German joumalist Egon Erwin Kisch. The thesis focuses on a translation analysis and subsequent comparison of two Czech translations of Marktplatz der Sensationen by Kisch. To be specific, an archive translation by Lenka Reinerová and a published translation by Jarmila Haasová-Nečasová are analysed. Marktplatz der Sensationen is a literary text, and therefore the text and its author are introduced in compliance with translation theory, prior to the analysis of the empirical material whi~e reflecting the historical, social, and literary context. Based on the background research in the thesis area, it can be stated that unlike the authorised Czech translations by Jarmila Haasová-Nečasová, the Czech translation by Lenka Reinerová has not been analysed in detail sofar. This analytical-empirical work therefore also represents a contribution to the history oftranslation studies. This thesis is divided into several parts. The first part defines the aim ofthe thesis. The second part introduces the preceeding research in this area, both Czech and intemational (German) contributions.
