The topic of this dissertation is the cohabitation of Czech- and German-speaking population in the city of Nové Hrady before and during the World War II, the dissertation also deals with displacement of German-speaking population from Nové Hrady. The attention is especially paid to the Buquoy?s County family and its role in the given time period ? especially to the person of Charles George Buquoy and his role in connection with the Nazi regime. The performance of the Eugen Banauch?s novel ?Gratzen oder die Angst vor dem eigenen Keller? follows. This novel is compared with available sources from the archives (State District Archives in České Budějovice and State Regional Archives in Třeboň) and with the memories of contemporary witnesses.
