The dean church of the Nativity of Virgin Mary in Vodňany. Its building history and adjustments in modern times
MOSEROVÁ, Kateřina
This bachelor's thesis is devoted to the building history and modern modifications of the dean church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Vodňany. The construction of the Vodňany church has undergone several reconstructions since its inception. The first mention of the church dates back to 1327, in the first half of the 15th century the building was given a high gothic appearance. An interesting chapter of early modern building development is the presence of the Italian builder Vincenc Vogarelli, who built the north nave. Around 1630, the Marradas family donated a baroque painting of the Virgin Mary of Monserrat to the Vodňany church. After the town fire, the interior of the church was supplemented by a set of late baroque statues during the second half of the 18th century. In the years 1894-1897, the church was converted into a neo-gothic form by the architect Josef Mocker. Today's decoration of the church also comes from the mentioned years, while designs for it were provided by Mikoláš Aleš. Preserved cardboard for stained glass and frescoes comes from his hand. The bachelor's thesis also deals with other monuments in the vicinity of Vodňany, in the decoration of which Mikoláš Aleš participated. The art-historical significance of these monuments is set in the corresponding context of the artist's work.
