MERTLOVÁ, Šárka
The diploma thesis deals with the topic of quality standards of social services in homes for the elderly. The aim of the presented work is to describe the importance of standards from the point of view of employees of selected homes for the elderly. The partial goal is to find out what the awareness about the quality standards of social services of these employees is. The work answered the given research questions concerning the importance of standards for employees of selected homes for the elderly and at the same time related to the awareness of these employees about the standards. To achieve the results, a qualitative research strategy, a method of questioning and a technique of a semi-structured interview were chosen. The interviews were conducted with employees from the ranks of the organization's management and with social workers. The grounded theory method was used for data analysis. The program Atlas.ti 7 was used to encode the obtained information. The results of the research showed that for employees of management of organizations standards are important documents which they can lean on while working with clients. At the same time, they perceive the fundamental influence of these documents on quality of the provided services. In contrast, interviewed social workers do not perceive the fundamental influence of standards on the quality of services provided. For them standards usually represent a time-consuming administration that deprives them of time devoted to direct care. In their opinion, the most beneficial standard is standard No. 5, in which they see meaning and benefit for working with clients. By updating the standards, these employees do not participate, they are only acquainted with the final form. These facts directly affect the awareness and opinion of social workers on the standards. The results of the research of the diploma thesis can serve as supporting material to strengthen the awareness of employees of homes for the elderly about the importance of standards.
Social Work in a Nursing Home
MERTLOVÁ, Šárka
The bachelor's thesis deals with social work in a home for the elderly and a person of a social worker. As the population gets older, increasing demands are still placed on supply and the provision of quality social services. These bring with them increased requirements for the provision of quality and educated staff. Great demands are placed firstly on social workers, who must manage all the administration and at the same time have to provide seniors with such conditions thanks to which they will remain as self-sufficient as possible. In the theoretical part, important terms related to the topic of the bachelor thesis were defined. In the practical part, two main research questions concerning the roles and activities of a social worker and the specifics of social work in a home for the elderly were answered. To obtain the results, a qualitative research strategy, a method of questioning and a semi-structured interview technique were chosen. Interviews were conducted with social workers who work in this position in homes for the elderly in the Klatovy district. The results of the research show above all the number of diverse activities that social workers perform in a home for the elderly. These activities begin with talks with the person interested in the service and end with the closing of the client's file. There is a large scale of roles mingling in the activities. In the opinion of social workers, the role of administrator, which is often done to the exclusion of time for direct work with clients, prevails the most. This is considered by social workers to be the main limiting factor of social work together with difficult communication with sensory impaired clients. Another factor is the fact that some clients´ requirements in the home cannot be set individually as clients would demand. The research showed that the respondents saw the possibility of providing quality social work, especially in lifelong learning and professional growth, which are necessary prerequisites for the performance of their profession.
