Experiences of PICC team members with their work in selected university hospitals

The diploma thesis focuses on the investigation of the circumstances that caused the creation of teams for the insertion of vascular access in large teaching hospitals. Nowadays, the number of chronically ill patients who require vascular access is increasing. Great demands are placed on nurses and efforts are made to increase their competences. Therefore, we decided to analyze the experiences of the founders, managers and executives of the PICC team, focusing on perceived benefits and risks. Considering the traditional hierarchical model of the healthcare team, we were interested in how the doctors see the reasons and barriers when handing over the competences to nurses and how they perceive the position of nurses in the PICC team and the opinions of the healthcare management. Qualitative research in the form of a semi-structured interview was used for data collection. Two doctors and four nurses who participate in the management of vascular access were chosen as respondents. Data analysis was performed using segmentation and coding. On the basis of the conducted research, it was found that each hospital has its own management of the PICC team, and the organization of work in individual hospitals differs.
