Utilization of evaluation by seniors.
LEHKOŽIVOVÁ, Veronika
The bachelor's thesis deals with the topic of assessment of seniors and its use in nursing practice. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on the explanation of basic terms and areas related to old age and aging. It also describes the specifics of care for a geriatric patient, including the most common syndromes associated with geriatrics. The conclusion of the theoretical part describes assessment tools in geriatrics and their use in various areas. The bachelor's thesis had two objectives. The first of these was to find a measuring tool that is suitable for evaluating the geriatric patient in nursing practice. The second goal was to map the use of assessment tests for seniors in nursing practice. The research was carried out in quantitative form. To fulfill the goals, standardized testing was used, which took place anonymously. The following tests were selected for data collection: Criteria for evaluating the frailty of seniors according to Fried and Barthel index of basic everyday activities. The target group was seniors over the age of 70 inclusive, and the testing took place in a home for the elderly and a nursing home in České Budějovice during March and April 2023. A total of 60 seniors between the ages of 70 and 96 took part in the testing. Friedová's evaluation test was extended by a non-standardized part regarding the identification data of the elderly required for statistical evaluation (age, sex, BMI, number of falls). The basic evaluation of the research set was processed using graphs and the stated hypotheses were processed using the statistical method of correlation. The results of the work confirmed that older people suffer from a loss of physical activity, a decrease in muscle strength, weight loss and exhaustion. The influence of some parameters on the risk or incidence of geriatric frailty was also confirmed. The interdependence between Fried's test and Barthel's test was also proven, meaning that seniors suffering from frailty and muscle weakness are more dependent on the help of others. The goal is to identify a frail senior in time and thereby prevent subsequent complications, such as loss of self-sufficiency.
