Representation of the Czech History in the Old Czech Legends of August Sedláček and Alois Jirásek
LASSNER, Jan
The study will be concentrated on the comparison of two literary works, both prose: Sbírka pověstí historických lidu českého v Čechách, na Moravě i ve Slezsku (Collection of historical legends of the Czech people in Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia) written by historian August Sedláček and Alois Jirásek´s Staré pověsti české (Old Czech Legends) that have been both published 1894. The study will be based on the analysis of their belletristic and narrative techniques, also, period perception of them (reviews of the works mentioned will be registered and interpreted, and so will be their further echoes, for example, in correspondence) will be observed. Both literary works will be considered not only in the context of other works by these authors (Alois Jirásek was acknowledged as the leading author of historical fiction, August Sedláček impressed with his writings about historical topography and local history) but also in wider relation to the previous historical works (first it is necessary to mention Dějiny národu českého v Čechách i na Moravě [The History of the Czech Nation in Bohemia and Moravia] by František Palacký).
