The Significance of Diversity for Special Educational Thinking
Prouzová-Květoňová, Regina ; Titzl, Boris (advisor) ; Kysučan, Jaroslav (referee) ; Vítková, Marie (referee)
To elucidate the relation between human beings and diversity, to find the means for its integration, and to expose the attitudes that society has had and still has to diversity - this is the objective of this dissertation. Diversity, dissimilarity, these are general terms that cover persons with physical handicaps, social disadvantages, mental handicaps, as well as members of ethnic and religious minorities and people in extreme situations. The author's intent was to collect a large number of cases where diversity, thus broadly conceived, is perceived as an advantage or as a condition that one can come to terms with, with or without the assistance of others. Human society has treated and still treats otherness disapprovingly, with disdain or scorn. These interrelations, which are manifested across all culture and history, may be helpful to the professionals and the people on the other side - the disadvantaged. They can help them find a path to pursue and pass to an understanding of oneself in one's otherness and to understand others that have found themselves under the sway of otherness. The directions outlined in the individual chapters suggest different ways of facing differences. Each chapter makes a different contribution to a special branch of study, focusing on a specific area, and analysing...

The analysis, the interpretation of the results and final discussion could be...

PhDr. Boris Titzl, Ph.D. ABSTRACT: Quality of life is a positive value for persons with mental disabity. Their limited intellectual abilities change their understanding of life quality comparing with other people. Although they have capability of certain rationale overview, it involves stronger emphasis on emotional aspects of everyday experienced events. The meaningful work is of specific importance for their experiencing. It was shown that working activities can be realized in two ways: i) by working education focused on evaluable results of purpose-focused work and ii) by working "therapy". The latter has obtained specific forms in Vincentinum: We developed working "therapy" either as real working rehabilitation or as a moto-pedagogic form of working education. In general, three different lines (medical, pedagogical and social-charitable) can be distinguished in working education with validity wider than for Vincentinum. Working education, or more precisely, therapy, is a principal element of each educative support of people with mental disabilities. This can be demonstrated by developmental changes of special institutes,...

The phenomenon of dementia in the context of human rights
Mužáková, Monika ; Titzl, Boris (advisor) ; Stejskal, Bohumil (referee) ; Kysučan, Jaroslav (referee)
The main aim of the doctoral thesis is to contribute to the better knowledge of the means by which the notion of the phenomenon "developmental disabilities" (mental disabilities) was created in the past, and which existential opportunities result from this for the life of a mentally challenged person. What does this phenomenon mean for us today? How do we understand the questions related to the existential needs of mentally challenged people in the context of human rights? I searched for the clarification of the ways by which the phenomenon of mental disability was shaped throughout the history of the development of the views of the human mind, body and soul. That is the reason why I define the notion of mental disability from the point of the views of the human mind and in connection with simultaneous growth in the knowledge of human body. Chapter II is shaped by my study of principal human experience with mental differences since mythical notions of a human being. I devote my attention to the ancient knowledge of the substance of mental diseases, derived from the attempts of the first scientific, rational studies of human body. The Middle Ages enriched the care for people with mental impairment - among which the mental disability was also ranked though in phenomenology undistinguished, - by the element of...
