In the theoretical part the bachelor work defines the needs of patients and the relation between a volunteer and illness. After that follows an explanation of the definition of voluntarism and types of voluntary activities. This is followed by a presentation of legislation, which deals with the contemporary problematic of voluntarism in the Czech Republic. Next part describes detailed development of the voluntary programme "Volunteers in hospitals" in our republic. Main attention has been paid to the realisation of the programme "Volunteers in hospitals" in the Regional hospital in the town of Liberec. An empirical investigation continues after the theoretical part. That surveys the affection of patient's mental condition by the volunteers. My respondents were the patients and attendants in the hospital department, where the programme "Volunteers in hospitals" has been realized. The result of this bachelor work is to demonstrate the usability of such established voluntary work as a part of quality granted by the nursing care.
