Designs of funerary urns in the works of Czech architects, visual artists and designers

In this bachelor's thesis I will be studying the topic of funerary urn designs and executions which had been created in Czechia after 1918. My attention will be dedicated to two eras of urn designs, the interwar period, which was a time when the urn designs started becoming a something of a trend in a connection to the renewal of cremation in Czechoslovakia. The second era I will be focusing on in this thesis is the 21st century with its contemporary urn designs. In depth, I will be discussing the designs and realizations of different architects, sculptors, painters and designers who had contributed to the theme of urns with an original point of view. One of the main themes will be the works of architects and co- workers of Artěl and also the sculptural works of individuals from the 1920s and 1930s, with occasional overlaps. My goal is to study the visual aspects of the urns, and I also want to focus on the artists themselves in an effort to understand their approach towards this task. In the same way, I will try to examine the designs of contemporary designers in an order to compare these two important eras. This work demonstrates changes that have occurred in the perception, classification and finally democratization of design, by the example of textile art and personality of Marie Teinitzerová, who was at the interface of fine art, handicraft and design and significantly contributed to the promotion of new aesthetic values in all of these areas.
Miroslav Navrátil and czechoslovak design in the second half of the 20th century

The dissertation's main focus is to introduce works of designer Miroslav Navrátil since his first known designs through his famous realizations for VNP in Brno up to late designs for the company Bukóza Vranov nad Topľou. The thesis contains a portfolio of 24 realizations, accompanied by a list of plates. Furthermore, his projects are introduced within the context of domestic and foreign furniture designs. The work also focuses on the successes and problems of housing in socialist Czechoslovakia and the contrasts between the design showed at the exhibitions on the one hand, and for ordinary households on the other.

Project management in culture: the international exhibition

The topic of the thesis is project management in the cultural organizations. The general levels of this topic are desribed in the theoretical part. This part analysis the sphere of the contemporary Czech cultural institutions, their cooperation and their position between the traditional roles and the modern management. Specific aspects of the project management for the exhibition project are also described. The aim of the analytical part is to describe and analyse the concrete project of the exhibition "Tschechische Fotografie des 20. Jahrhunderts" (Czech Photography of 20th Century) in Bonn (organised in the international cooperation of two different cultural organizations), to analyse the project processes, strenghts and risks and to give some recommendations to the project. The key topic for all these aspects is the coordination or synchronisation of the organizators and the positive aspects and complications of this cooperation.
