Jews and Moors in Cantar de Mio Cid
Klusáčková, Anna ; Sánchez Fernández, Juan Antonio (advisor) ; Kotuľáková, Lívia (referee)
This bachelor thesis investigates the question of Jewish and Moorish society, next to the Christian one in an epic poem Cantar de Mio Cid which is the most significant work that represents a time period in Spanish Middle Age literature, called Mester de juglaría. The investigated problem is conflicts that were present between these religious groups. Firstly, this thesis shortly presents the most important historical events that preceded a period called reconquista in which the plot of the epic poem takes place. Later, this thesis talks about the historical context of this time period where certain parts are also dedicated to the life of Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, who is the protagonist of the investigated poem. For a better orientation, there are several editions of Poema de Mio Cid that are accompanied by other works that focus on a description of several characters of each of all the mentioned religions or are dedicated to one of many episodes in which these characters are presented. Another used method in this thesis was comparing the historical part with the fictional one in the poem.
