Implementation of a test for comparison of database systems' performance
Matějka, Martin ; Chlapek, Dušan (advisor) ; Kaltoun, Jan (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to create a program, which will be able to perform a performance testing of relational database systems supporting query language SQL with an emphasis on open source systems. The test should simulate a real usage of tested database systems. In the introduction is shown the necessity of such program (which is supported by the analysis of existing theses and programs in the second chapter) and the fact, that it is convenient to base the test on the TPC-C as a standard for this type of testing in the proprietary sphere, so all the given requirements could be met. The third chapter gives insights into the history of transactional testing and what were the circumstances of the formation of Transaction Processing Performance Council, which authored the TPC-C specification. The main characteristics of TPC-C are decribed in the following chapter, while the fifth one addresses the implementation, i.e. the creation of the program, which can be used for testing of database systems. The sixth chapter deals with the usage of this program for the comparation of two well known open source database systems in their default configuration - MySQL and PostgreSQL. However, the goal of this testing is to find out whether the created program is fully functional, while the seventh chapter elaborates more on this. The most important outcome of this thesis is a program, which can be used for comparation of real-usage-like performance of (not only) open source relational database systems. This program is an open source, which increases its value since a user has a possibility to find out exactly what is tested and how it is done. Furthermore, it supports the future development of this program. Another outcome of the thesis is the comparation of two open source database systems.
Electronic voting at the University of Economics, Prague and in the Czech Republic
Kaltoun, Jan ; Chlapek, Dušan (advisor) ; Nenadál, Karel (referee)
The focus of this paper is research of electronic voting topics applied to conditions of University of Economics, Prague and the Czech Republic. It therefore consists of not only theoretical research but also of applied work. First goal of this paper was to provide information base both about (especially electronic) voting and significant electronic voting projects realized throughout the world. Consequent second goal was analysis and design of electronic voting solution for chosen elections type at the University of Economics, Prague and proposal of possible process changes in chosen type of elections in the Czech republic should electronic voting be implemented. In it's first part the paper gathers, summarizes and presents information about (especially electronic) voting and chosen electronic voting implementations. The second part then describes chosen types of elections at the University of Economics, Prague and in the Czech Republic and analyzes their processes. In former case the analysis is followed by proposition and evaluation of possible electronic voting implementation variants of chosen elections type and detailed elaboration of the most suitable one. In latter case the paper goes on to describe possible process changes that could arise should electronic voting be implemented for chosen elections type in the Czech Republic. Author's contribution lies in fulfilling the goals of this thesis and performing the necessary activities leading to them. Following the (electronic) voting research the author has provides the reader with information base needed to quickly orientate tehmselves in the field of electronic voting. The author then leverages this information to research and process-analyze chosen types of elections at the University of Economics, Prague and in the Czech Republic, propose changes in mapped processes needed for eventual electronic voting implementation, present alternatives of electronic voting implementation of chosen elections type at the University of Economics, Prague and elaborate on the chosen most suitable one.
Database design for online catalog of music groups
Šimeček, Petr ; Palovská, Helena (advisor) ; Kaltoun, Jan (referee)
The aim of this paper is to describe the various stages of the process of creating the design and subsequent development of a database for the website collects information about music groups, albums and songs. The main emphasis is on optimized connections between entities and database structures and functionality allowing the use of several languages on the site without disrupting the application of the website.
Dog racing database design
Schwarzkopf, Dan ; Palovská, Helena (advisor) ; Kaltoun, Jan (referee)
This thesis deals with database design of dog racing. It focuses especially on entering dogs for races and sharing the results. Although the database is primarily intended for the purposes of dog racing in the Czech Republic, it should be applicable in any country of continental Europe where dog races are held. Only entities, relationships and attributes are defined in the database. The user tier is omitted (i.e. the database does not contain roles nor users). The thesis starts with theoretical part which describes several methods of information gathering. These methods can be used at vast range of occasions, including database design. In the next part I characterise order and way I used these methods. Then the description of displayed reality follows and at the end there are comments on procedure of creation of the database.
Analysis and development of IS/ICT solution for project Sanace dluhů in the Czech republic
Kaltoun, Jan ; Chlapek, Dušan (advisor) ; Komínek, Stanislav (referee)
This paper describes the analysis and development of IS/ICT for the project Sanace dluhů in the Czech republic which is being realised by The Association for Probation and Mediation in Justice in cooperation with Czech Probation and Mediation Service and Swiss association VEBO. The goal of this project was to design and realize the IS/ICT support for project Sanace dluhů. In order to meet this goal many activities had to be performed such as designing the architecture of the information system, programming the IASW and the creation of documentation and training of future users. The first part of this paper describes the process of choosing the methodology and continues with more detailed description of the chosen methodology and with the description of how the methodology was adapted to fit the project. In this part there are also mentioned the agile techniques and models used during the analysis. In the next chapter the author describes and documents the analysis of clients' requests and the present state. Following chapters describe among other topics the design of the final solution, selected topics dealing with the application development and with the process of delivery of the developed solution to end-users. This part of the paper also discusses the future possibilities of extending the application. Author's contribution lies in performing the activities specified by the chosen methodology and in presentation of their outputs. In the process of creation of this paper the author understood the project Sanace dluhů, thoroughly analysed the requests for its IS/ICT support, reacted on the changes in requests and created a product based on these requests that fulfills clients' vision. Author then put the product into operation considering both hardware and software and trained its users.
