Influence of physical activity on the psyche of seniors
KULÍŘOVÁ, Kateřina
Regular physical activity improves not only physical but also mental health. For the elderly, it also promotes self-sufficiency and thus positively affects their quality of life. The main aim of this thesis is to capture the effect of exercise on the emotional state of the elderly. An equally important aim of the thesis is to find out how active the senior generation is with respect to the number of steps walked during the day and in performing physical activities of their own volition. Changes in emotional short-term states in the elderly were captured using the Profile of Mood States questionnaire. Their movement data was collected both through Yamax Digiwalker SW-700 pedometers and through a questionnaire that included questions focusing on their physical activity. The results of the thesis demonstrate the positive effect of exercise on the psyche of the elderly. Based on the results evaluated, it was also found that a total of 19 seniors (73 %) of the study population (n = 26), in the age range of 60-70 years inclusive, perform physical activity regularly and women are more physically active than men given the number of steps walked.
