Phonological abilities of children and their development in the private and public kindergarten

This Bachelor thesis is focusing on the phonological abilities of preschool children. These phonological abilities are important for practicing on reading skills. The main objective was to examine children and to describe the process and findings. Some possible measures for their further development are devised, too. The theoretical part of the thesis covers the development of the preschool child. Its focus are the perceptually motoric and cognitive functions in connection with the development of phonological abilities. Additionally, it also describes the difference between school maturity vs. readiness and competence. Furthermore, it covers communication skills, speech and it defines phonetics and phonology. Finally, the boundary conditions of education and the methods of work in the private and public kindergarten are mentioned. The practical part is based on the examination of preschool children. It describes the findings and attempts to compare children from private and public kindergartens. The thesis concludes with a few suggestions for activities in order to facilitate the further development of the abilities under research.
