Today´s Young Readers

This diploma work named Today´s Young Reader is focused on research of the reader´s culture of children going to fourth and fifth class of primary school. In theoretical part there are characterized basic terms to this theme. Main chapters contain an overview of individual genres of a children´s literature, a psychology of a young reader, problems of today´s reading and an actual recommendation of good books for children. The main aim of this research was to find out, if today´s children, surrounded by mass media, have a time for reading books. We gained an overview of genres, authors, magazines which are preferred and are not preferred by children of this age. The practical part includes not only results my observation and assessment of questionnaires from children, but a summary of two discussions at library and dialogues with a librarian and a teacher too. With help of their opinion on today´s reading of children we could make a comparison with a result of the questionnaire investigation.
