Identity and behavioral strategies of homosexual men in Czechoslovakia during the Communist period
Kloidová, Petra ; Sokolová, Věra (advisor) ; Havelková, Hana (referee)
My thesis is concerned with construction of identity and gender aspects of homosexual men who lived in Czechoslovakia during the Communist era in South Bohemia, specifically in České Budějovice. In my thesis I use the qualitative method of oral history, as narrative biographical interviews allows the ability to capture the experiences of individuals based on their treatment by the political regime and social order of the era. The subsequent analysis will examine how these men faced political invisibility, social marginalization and professional publicizing of homosexuality which constructed their individual and collective identities. This thesis will also map the behavioral strategies these men applied to themselves, especially before the STB components and in their personal lives.
Review Kmen in Czech Cultural Context of 20th Years.
KLOIDOVÁ, Petra
The Kmen Magazine was one of the literary magazines which had a significant influence on Czechoslovak culture in the 20´s. My dissertation is concerned with research about the Kmen weekly literary magazine between 1918 - 1921, and the monthly magazine from the year 1922 and between 1926-1929. The writing is also partially concerned with both Czech cultural context and the historic circumstances the paper was responding to. The main goal is to analyze previous issues of the magazine and compare relationships between them in order to expose how the Kmen magazine was developed. The Following research is devoted to interpretation of characteristic features of literary journals in the context of artistic styles and the historic background of the 20´s.
