Diabetes mellitus and related conditions
Kurková, Simone ; Kara, Tomáš (advisor) ; Hubáček, Jaroslav (referee)
Diabetes mellitus is one of the non-communicable diseases of mass occurrence. Other diseases, such as diseases of the nervous or vascular system, are often associated with diabetes itself. This thesis discusses diabetes and these associated diseases, which occur most often together with diabetes. The aim of the thesis was to describe the development and therapy of diabetes itself and the resulting oncological disease of the pancreas. Another goal was to capture the dietary habits of interviewed persons with a newly diagnosed pancreatic tumor and determine nutritional interventions depending on the diet record. As these cases were very specific, the practical part was processed in the form of a case study. The work includes 4 case studies of patients with diabetes mellitus together with oncological disease of the pancreas. Each case study also includes nutritional recommendations for improving or maintaining the quality of life and compensating for the disease. The topic of diabetes and oncological disease of the pancreas is not sufficiently explored and therefore there is a need for further research that would deal with these topics. keywords: diabetes mellitus, diabetes mellitus and related conditions, complications of diabetes, diabetes mellitus and pancreatic cancer

The study includes 4 cases of patients with diabetes mellitus together with an associated disease, such as diabetic nephropathy. Each case report also includes nutritional recommendations for improving or maintaining the quality of life and compensating for the disease. However, the issue of diabetes and related diseases has not yet been fully explored, and further research is needed to examine this issue in more depth. keywords: diabetes mellitus, diabetes mellitus and related conditions, complications of diabetes

Baroreflex sensitivity and heart rate
Halámek, Josef ; Jurák, Pavel ; Swenne, C. A. ; Kára, T. ; Souček, M. ; Eisenberg, M. ; Nykodým, J.
The correlation between baroreflex sensitivity (BRS) and heart rate (HR) is discussed. According to theoretical model, where the constant blood flow is supposed, the BRS given in [ms/mmHg] must correlate with HR and BRS in [mHz/mmHg] should not correlate with HR. This assumption was confirmed by the measurement on healthy young subjects, but it is not valid for old healthy subjects and for patients.

Baroreflex sensitivity and signal processing
Halámek, Josef ; Jurák, Pavel ; Kára, T. ; Davies, L. C. ; Francis, D.
Baroreflex sensitivity (BRS) represents one of the most promising non-invasive markers of the cardiac disease. The measurement and computing of BRS are described but the significance of many different types of measurements and computing algorithms of BRS is neglected. This is one reason why the clinical applications of BRS suffer from poor reproducibility and sensitivity. The comparison of the short-term reproducibility and success rate of four different methods of assesing BRS is presented. The authors concerned themselves before all with a different type of measurement. Our aim is to test the coherency of BRS when the same data are analyzed using different algorithms.
