Savagery in The Inheritors and the Lord of the Flies by William Golding Bachelor thesis, Bc. Miriam Juranková, 2016 ABSTRACT William Golding dedicated his life's work to an exploration of man's nature. The primary themes of most of his novels are the conflict between civilization and savagery, good and evil and the question of the source of evil within man. This thesis focuses on his first two and most well-known novels: Lord of the Flies and The Inheritors. The objective of this thesis is to analyse the theme of savagery in these books. The aim of this thesis is to infer what Golding intends to convey concerning the nature of man and to analyse how he understands and views savagery. The theoretical foundation of this thesis is based on a comprehensive definition of the terms civilization, savagery and barbarism derived from their etymology and their meaning within various social sciences; and Golding's own ethical doctrine established in his works. Other sources include works focused on literary analysis of Golding's novels, interviews and articles written about Golding's life and work and naturally both the novels analysed. Comparative analysis of teacher training systems

High-quality education requires high-quality teachers. Many countries including the Czech Republic struggle with consistent recruitment of good and motivated candidates to choose a career in education. Low percentage of new and young teachers intending to make teaching their lifelong career is also noticeable. This thesis will analyse and evaluate different teacher training approaches, specialist training routes in particular, with regard to their efficiency in acquisition of new applicants and maintenance of motivation throughout a lifelong career in education. This thesis will infer the efficiency of each teacher training system by a comparative analysis of teacher training systems in Finland and The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Theme of memory in A History of the World in 10 1/2 Chapters by Julian Barnes

The objective of this dissertation is to explore the theme of memory and its impact on how we tend to re-create and perceive history, as reflected in the book A History of the World in 10 and ½ Chapters. The goal is to interpret each chapter and make a plausible inference as to what the author intended to communicate concerning the postmodernist view of history. The theoretical groundwork of the thesis draws primarily on Hayden White's Metahistory; Paul Ricœur's La mémoire, l'histoire, l'oubli and Temps et Récit. Tome I. Other sources include interviews with Julian Barnes, Conversations with Julian Barnes by Vanessa Guignery; an essay by Frank Kermode, Stowaway Woodworm and of course the novel itself.
