Analysis of Czech Cinema Attendance

The first permanent cinema in Czech Republic was opened in 1907. In hundred years of existence of cinemas, many changes have happened, mainly in the way of screening, in the distribution of films and in the audience relation to the cinema. The attendance of Czech cinemas has had various tendencies and has been influenced by social and political changes and also by the progress of other media and technologies. The first part of this thesis describes specific periods of the cinema history and its attendance in connection with the Czech cinematographic system. The second part is concerned with the factors that could effect the attendance of cinemas, that is, mainly the distribution system in relation with the cinema network, advertising and promotion of the films and the films as well. The last part focuses on the future of cinemas, especially in connection with the digitalization, on different possibilities of films exploitation and in the end on estimates of future cinema attendance.
