The aim of the work was find methods of rearing orphans. In the practical part, which is composed of interviews with bigger breeds and an evaluation of the results of the questionnaire, which was focused on smaller breeders, I found that in big breeds orphans almost absent, and if so, it does not happen, that they would have died. In smaller breeders orphans is more frequent, but the deaths of orphans is around 6%. Stud farms are better prepared for the possibility of orphans, they have in reserve frozen colostrum and they have the better possibility socialize foal in a group, which small breeders usually do not have this possibility. Orphans are of-ten used as standard like their peers and special considerations are not apply to them. However, these foals are affected after the social and often with them wor-sened handling. They often more identify with human, than horse species.
