Seizures in the prehospital emergency care
JAŠKOVÁ, Lucie
This bachelor's thesis on the subject: "Seizures in the prehospital emergency care" is divided into two parts. A theoretical part, and a research part. The theoretical part is initially devoted to the general description of the spasmodic states and their development. Consequently, the spasmodic states are divided according to the characteristics of the spasm, the extent of the seizure and the cause of the spasm. An overview of selected conditions that cause spasmodic activity is featured in the subchapters. The core of the work is dedicated to epilepsy, epileptic status, febrile convulsions and eclampsia. For the research part, objective 1 was: to map the level of the theoretical knowledge of paramedics in connection with the provision of pre-hospital emergency care in case of spasmodic states. Two research questions were identified on the basis of this objective. The research question number 1 is: How do paramedics, from differential diagnosis point of view, care for a patient, who is in spasmodic state? The research question number 2 is: How do paramedics proceed, from therapy point of view, in treatment of a patient, who suffers from spasmodic state? A qualitative research method, in the form of semi-structured interviews, was used to question 6 paramedics who work at the Medical Emergency Service in Tábor and České Budějovice. The participants responded 12 questions and with their consent, were recorded on a Dictaphone. The data obtained was divided into 10 categories. The research has revealed a lack of knowledge of paramedics regarding the problem of spasmodic states in pre-hospital emergency care. As the adequate knowledge and skills of paramedics are necessary, I consider their periodic testing useful.
