Turkey's EU accession: Analysis of the Turkish attitude

The subject of this thesis is Turkey's stance to joining the European Union in the year 2014. The first part of this text is a summarization of the relationship developments between Turkey and the EU, with special focus on those issues which could potentially play a significant role in current affaris. The second part of this thesis focuses on analysis of three examples of Turkish daily press, in order to demonstrate the different stances towards the issue of EU membership as raised in Turkish society. The second part is also divided into thematic segments which are relevant to Turkey's possible membership in the EU. The main goal of this thesis is to accurately present the various Turkish viewpoints and opinions, as they took place in 2014, about entry into the EU. Particular attention is also dedicated to Turkey's changing stance towards the issue in the year 2014, as opposed to previous years. Development and migration policy as instruments of contemporary Turkish geopolitics

One of the countries that has enjoyed great international interest in recent years is Turkey. The long period of passive foreign policy oriented primarily towards the West has been replaced in recent years by a very active foreign policy focused on its own region. Turkey has included new instruments and activities in its foreign policy that are more in line with the position of the Middle Power. Two of the foreign policy instruments that have become important in Turkey include development aid and migration policy, or more precisely its response to refugee crises. This is also due to the fact that, as a result of the Syrian crisis, Turkey currently hosts more than three million refugees on its territory. The main goal of this thesis is to analyze the changes in Turkey's migration and development policy in the context of its overall foreign policy, as well as the way in which these issues are used to increase its soft power. The more general goal is to try to use the findings to enrich the Two-Good Theory with soft power tools. The Two-Good Theory attempts to explain the behavior of states in terms of their inclination towards maintaining status quo or changing the status quo in different areas of international relations.
