Electronic elections in the Czech Republic: challenge of the 21st century or a danger to the credibility of democracy?

The topics of this thesis are electronic elections and the question of their implementation in the Czech Republic. In many countries around the world it is possible for the voters to cast their vote electronically using modern technologies, and a question is starting to rise in the Czech Republic whether it would be suitable to allow our voters to cast their vote over the internet as well. The first part of this work focuses on different types of electronic voting systems and researches their characteristics in connection with their local matters. Importance has been put on security. Taking Estonia as an example the work has focused on finding out if electronic elections improve election turnout and who are the voters using e- voting systems. The second part of the thesis is focused on the democratic principles related to electronic elections. Finally the last part of this work researches what would implementing electronic elections bring for the Czech Republic and if there is any reason to do so.
