The role of motor imagery in motor learning and the quality of movement performance

Introduction: The influence of imagination and emotions on our body has been talked about for several decades. The results of studies in the field of neuroscience confirm these assumptions. However, it is necessary to demonstrate their real clinical effectiveness in rehabilitation or physiotherapy. Objective: The aim of the study is to find out what role the idea of movement plays in learning new motor patterns. The effort is to find out to what extent and in which parameters the change occurred after a 14-day exercise cycle in individual cases. Methods: Medical students who were divided into three groups voluntarily participated in the randomized study. The 1st diagonal of the upper limb (1.D UL) from the Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) method was selected for the study. Volunteers in all groups exercised daily for 14 days. The first group (group image) practiced only in their imagination. The second group (group moto) exercised physically with an audio recording for the same amount of time. The third group (group mix) practiced the first week using their imagination and the second week by physical exercise.
