Epidural anesthesia and patient information
HOUDKOVÁ, Zuzana
The subject of the bachelor thesis is called "Epidural anesthesia and patient awareness". It deals primarily with informing the patient about epidural anesthesia and nursing knowledge on the subject. In the theoretical part of our bachelor thesis we tried to summarize completely all important information about epidural anesthesia. We dealt with the basic distribution of anesthesia, the characteristics of epidural anesthesia, nurse and patient communication, nursing care before, during, and after epidural anesthesia For the research part, we set two goals. The first target was to find out how the patient was informed before surgery about epidural anesthesia. The second objective was to find out if the nurses had knowledge about epidural anesthesia. To achieve these goals, we have chosen a research survey in the form of qualitative research. The semi-structured interview method was used to obtain the data. The research team consisted of five nurses and five patients. In total, ten interviews were conducted in the framework of the research. Each interview for the nurses contained 13 questions and 11 questions for patient respondents. Research issues focused on nursing care by a patient undergoing epidural anesthesia. All post-implementation conversations were rewritten into Microsoft Office Word. According to the results, it was found that the interviewed patients were sufficiently informed about the epidural anesthesia, to which they agreed together. From the interviews revealed that they were informed in an anesthesiology clinic, but also by the doctor or nurse. Information for them was sufficient and have moderated worry before the performance itself. It has also been found that nurses have sufficient knowledge about epidural anesthesia and are constantly trained in this field. During the process, they interact with the doctor and with the patient as well.
