Egon Schiele-sexuality
HOFFMAN, Rostislav
An austrian painter, illustrator and designer. Even though Egon Shiele has never formally adopted this movement, he is, together with Oscar Kokoska, one of the leading figures of Austrian expressionism. In the work of every painter we can find key pieces, which expose the artist's character and sources of inspiration for his work. Conscious or unconscious reasons can be usually found for a motive that persistently occupies the artist's mind and immagination and takes dominant position in his work. Schiele was influenced by Sigmund Freud's teachings about subconsciousnes. His work was shaped by his own fears and obsessions. His art was also influenced by his friendship with Vienna's artist Gustav Klimt, by whose art he started to be interested in erotic paintings and sketches. Many of his works embrace deep eroticism - in such pieces Shiele's inner emotions are refrected. Sheile is concentrating on the essence of human sexuality. He puts most of his attention to portraying genitals. For "painging immorral pictures" he was even jailed for a short time in 1912.
