Water conflict resolution in international law

Water conflict resolution in international law Abstract Riparian states across the world share common water resource in more than 200 international river basins. International law regulations of riparian states' rights and duties in the field of shared water resource utilization at the regional level is not sufficient. Conflicts between states arising from it constitute a threat to international peace and security. Given effects of climate change on freshwater resources, it is presumed that these conflicts would become more frequent in the future. This thesis deals with the topic of the water conflict prevention and resolution in the international water law. The aim of this thesis is to evaluate which conflict resolution mechanism is suitable for water conflicts. At the same time, the author asks the following research questions: What are the factors that determine the efficiency of conflict resolution mechanisms in maintaining international peace and security? How are the international legal principles of shared water resource utilization reflected in the water conflict resolution mechanisms? The thesis applies the method of theoretical analysis to water conflict resolution mechanisms and their ability to fulfill their primary objective to maintain international peace and security. Controversy on Human Rights between E. Burke and T. Paine

This diploma thesis deals with the famous controversy concerning interpretation of the French Revolution between Thomas Paine and Edmund Burke. This controversy is put into context with English debate on the revolution, which commenced with Price´s sermon (On the Love of our Country, 1789). Burke responded with his work Reflections on the revolution in France to that and subsequently Paine reacted with a text Rights of Man, in which he expounded his philosophy of the rights of man. The focus concentrates in the diverse interpretation of the concept of human rights with both authors.
Human Rights in the American Revolution

The bachelor thesis is focused on theory of human rights, which was developed by American thinkers during the American Revolution. The discussion of this subject is based on methods of intellectual history. Thus the thesis fill in the gap in Czech research, which has not paid attention to intellectual history of the American Revolution. The research is based on the philosophical work of John Witherspoon (1723-1794), who lectured moral philosophy at New Jersey College (present-day Princeton University). This philosopher and clergyman participated in the Congress which drafted the Declaration of Independence. In his lectures, he was concerned with philosophical defence of goals of the American Revolution. The aim of this thesis is interpretation and analysis of Witherspoon´s Lectures on Moral Philosophy and recognition of his conception of human rights.
