Coffee in Bohemia

This Bachelor thesis is focused on analyzing a historical development of coffee in Bohemia until present day. The coffee consumption has been going through historical and cultural development, which has changed the symbolic function of coffee in society. Despite the fact that coffee is a consumer commodity, it evolved into a social activity of its own. Thesis briefly touches upon the historical, cultural and sociological context. It contains four different topics and applies a chronological outline of the coffee consumption. The first part of this work begins with the introduction of legends which uncover the discovering of coffee tree and coffee. The second part is focused on the history of coffee between 17th and 19th centuries in Bohemia. The third part describes changes of coffee consumption during the 20th century and defines a concept of speciality coffee.
