Pro-Women-Oriented NGO's in the Czech Republic. The Beginning and Present Reality - Case Study of Three NGO's

In my thesis I focus on the mapping of the aims of selected pro-women-oriented NGO's in the time of their establishment and today, characteristics of potential changes of the aims and their possible impact on the original mission of the organisations/movement. In the introductory part I concentrate on the historical context of civic activities in the Czech society with the emphasis on women activities from the beginning of emancipation efforts in 19th century till 1990. I pay special attention to the context of establishment and development of the first women NGO's from the period of transformation after 1989 till the present time. In the analytical part I evaluate the development of the aims of NGO's - YWCA v ČR, Kluby křesťanských žen and Síť MC , which were founded/re-established in 1990 and are still in existence. Based on the analysis of documents and interviews I describe the development of their aims in the context of societal conditions affecting them since their establishment. In the conclusion I present the characteristics of the changes of the aims and their impact on the mission of organisations as illustration of development trends of the society relating to the demand for their services. The evaluation of their present state provides reflection of their "survival strategy", which reveals key...
