Early cardiopulmonary resuscitation and defibrillation in South Bohemia with a usage of a first aid on demand
ALDORFOVÁ, Lucie
In the first part of the thesis, I describe the concept of sudden cardiac arrest and also the important chain of survival. I also define the procedure for cardiopulmonary resuscitation and defibrillation. Last but not least, I focus on automated external defibrillators in terms of availability in the Czech Republic and abroad. Here I also describe operating and identification of defibrillators. In the last chapter, I analyse First responders in the South Bohemian Region and abroad. The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to determine the use of First responders in the South Bohemian Region, the use of public access automated external defibrillators and to determine the success of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and defibrillation of First responders in the South Bohemian Region using the automated external defibrillators. To achieve these aims, three research questions have been set. The research part was conducted as a qualitative research based on semi-structured interviews which consisted of fifteen questions. The research group consisted of six First responders from among the professional and volunteer firefighters, police force and members of the Mountain and Water Rescue Service. All interviews took place in April 2021. In the first phase of the research, the research requests were sent out to people in higher positions on given work places. After approval, I was provided with contacts to randomly selected First responders, with whom an interview was conducted after a contact. Due to the current pandemic situation, all interviews were conducted over a recorded call; all participants were informed about the recording and agreed. With all interviews being carried out, they were subsequently transcribed and recordings deleted. The processing and evaluation of the research followed. The research provided answers to all set objectives and addressed all research questions. It was found that the use of First responders in the South Bohemian Region is really large. At the same time it was also found that the public access automated external defibrillators do not have such a success. The research also showed that the success or failure of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and defibrillation of First responders using the automated external defibrillators cannot be conclusively determined.
