Motivation of prison Chaplains

The diploma thesis focuses on the prison chaplains motivation for their work with prisoners. In the theoretical part is offered a comprehensive summary of the prison service topic in which are described some basic concepts of the punishement functions and personnel the chaplain meets in the prison. It also closely describes the prison chaplain profession, the historical beginnings of this service, the prison chaplains church affiliation, conditions for entering this profession, legislation, chaplain role and activities in the prison. Further the thesis deals with a chapter about the motivation topic, which specifies the assumed chaplains motives for this service. Accordingly with the given thesis goal and the research questions, the motivation of prison chaplains is determined in the practical part, with the help of qualitative research. In the research were involved eight prison different genders chaplains, from different churches, prisons and with different time of experience as a prison chaplain. Data were obtained from respondents using a semi-structured interview and then evaluated through analysis. Keywords prison chaplain, motivation, convicted
