The Kinoautomat phenomenon in the context of interactive cinema
Bašková, Aneta ; Štoll, Martin (advisor) ; Bednařík, Petr (referee)
The thesis deals with the phenomenon of Kinoautomat: Man and His House, it explains the setting of the work in the context of cinema and other interactive media and interactivity as a concept and a genre in its own right. It explores the connections between these works, trying to describe interactive art as comprehensively as possible. The text introduces the various theories through which it seeks to define interactivity, examines the plot and principles of Kinoautomat: The Man and His House itself within other literature, and looks in detail at the voting system and the potentially hidden meanings within the work. It also discusses a brief historical context of the interactive art that preceded Kinoautomat. It also briefly addresses the contemporary context of interactive cinema. The works presented in the context of interactive art are also compared with Kinoautomat. The thesis makes use of mainly literary and online sources, and an interview with Alena Činčerová, conducted specifically for the purposes of this thesis using a qualitative semi-structured interview, which is also an essential source of information. A transcript of the audio recording is included in the appendix of this thesis. A brief context of interactive cinema has been formed in this thesis, with mention of other interactive...
The Ostalgie phenomenon and its manifestations in Czech and German television series
Kočárková, Kateřina ; Soukup, Martin (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
Ostalgia is a phenomenon that manifests itself in all areas of human activity - in fashion, culture, music, goods available on the market, or simply in the memories of human beings. This thesis mainly focuses on the cultural level, specifically on television series. The theoretical part is dedicated to collective memory and the culture of remembrance, two aspects that are very closely related to the cultural level. Ostalgic reminiscence often emphasizes material goods, as if the reminiscers were trying to preserve something from a time in which they will never find themselves again - except through memories. Here, I find it interesting to link the phenomenon of ostalgia with the so-called memory of things, defined by Jan Asmann and further analyzed in more depth by anthropologist Arjun Appadurai. By using objects from the times of socialism, people preserved at least part of their earlier lives; memories stored in these objects can be recalled even after several years. The phenomenon of ostalgia will be specifically examined in two Czech and two German television series. The Czech examples are represented by the TV series Vyprávěj and Svět pod hlavou produced by Czech Television. The two German series Ku'damm and Deutschland 83 were chosen to represent an approximate equivalent to the Czech...
Analysis of product placement in Czech films from 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019 and 2022
Holan, Ondřej ; Kruml, Milan (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
The aim of this thesis was to confirm the assumption that with the advent of streaming services, Czech filmmakers will be forced to use product placement more often to increase their budgets after many viewers will go to the cinema less often. It was assumed that the products would be shown in the films in connection with the main character, who would actively use the item for a long time. The defined period for the research was between 2010 to 2022 in order to examine the effect of the enactment of product placement in Czech law and also to examine the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the film industry. The given time span was divided into five consecutive periods each three-years apart. Due to the number of films planned for analysis, the method of quantitative content analysis was used. A significant number of hypotheses have not been confirmed. Only the assumptions that there will be a noticeable increase in the frequency of product placement, an increase in the frequency of unique brands, an increase in the percentage ratio of dominant shot to the remaining shots, and a higher frequency of unique brands in films with lower budgets have been confirmed. The main reasons for the non-confirmation of hypotheses include a small research sample, comparing several periods at once, the situation...

Vlašicová, Dagmar ; Kruml, Milan (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
The British series Heartstopper was first available online on the Netflix platform on april 22, 2022, although the graphic novel that became the basis for the series was first published in 2019. It is now one of the most successful series produced by Netflix, also on the social network TikTok the #heartstopper hashtag reached trillions of views. The third television part and the fifth part of the graphic novel are currently being prepared. In this work, I want to focus on the series, and specifically how viewers of the LGBTQ+ community perceive the series. The main goal will be to find out if the series in any way affects their lives and the concept of relationships and if it had an effect on their attitudes towards the majority society judging the LGBTQ+ minority and other stuff. For this finding, I will use qualitative analysis and a form of in-depth interviews with viewers of the series who identify as queer. The main areas that I would like to focus on are a) the relationship of the viewer to individualism, b) the relationship to the LGBTQ+ community, c) the perception of oneself as queer in the majority society.
Slovak propagandistic movies of the fifties
Novajovská, Michaela ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
The aim of this work is to highlight the films that were released in the 1950s and received the nickname propagandistic films, when all films were based on the doctrine of the socialist regime. During this period, twenty-nine feature films were released in Slovakia, and three will be examined in more detail in this work: Priehrada, Pole neorané, and Drevená dedina. Each is from a different well-known director active during these years. The theoretical part focuses exclusively on propaganda itself and its purpose in the film. The goal of this section is to identify specific propaganda elements in films in Slovakia. It aims to introduce the work of directors working during that period and their works released under the auspices of the Soviet Union. The aim of the practical part of the bachelor thesis is to use film analysis to identify these elements directly in selected films, to highlight the required norms in specific film scenes, and to analyse the characteristic features of construction films.
Československý NEI REPORT 1990 - 2012: From a hot erotic comet to a chilled body
Strejček, Jiří ; Štoll, Martin (advisor) ; Jirák, Jan (referee)
Title: Československý NEI Report 1990 - 2012: From a hot erotic comet to a chilled pornographic body Author: Jiří Strejček Abstract: The political-erotic newspaper Czechoslovak NEI Report was one of the first erotic titles to be published in what was then Czechoslovakia. Unlike other erotic publications, which wanted to give the impression that sex is something special and exclusive with a high selling price and chalk paper, NEI Report tried to present erotica and sex as a normal part of an adult's life. Efforts to make it easily accessible to the widest possible range of readers were subordinated to the cheap production of the NEI Report consisting of partially color, partially black-and-white printing on regular newsprint paper, which enabled its low selling price. In addition to depicting erotica and sex, the NEI Report also dealt with sexual education, which was spread by leading Czech sexologists. NEI Report was published as the press organ of the political party Nezávislá erotická iniciativa (Independent Erotic Initiative), later renamed Nezávislá iniciativa (Independent Initiative). However, when this party repeatedly failed in its intention to succeed in the elections to the Chamber of Deputies, NEI Report resigned to political ambitions and devoted space exclusively to erotica and sex.
Under pressure (television documentary about triathlon)
Zelenková, Aneta ; Štoll, Martin (advisor) ; Macková, Veronika (referee)
This bachelor's thesis consists of two parts of a bachelor project, which includes a documentary film and a theoretical study. The theoretical part first addresses the topic of documentary film, its relation to genre theory, and the depiction of reality. Within the documentary field, it further analyses the need for narrative patterns and storyline construction. These schemas and the motive of sport are further discussed from the audience's perspective using examples from the documentary series 30 for 30 by ESPN and the documentary film The Deepest Breath. It also briefly presents the role of sports documentary film in the production of television stations or streaming platforms, and the motivation for television stations to include more documentary films. Moreover, with the help of Bill Nichols's theory, it provides a basic introduction to documentary modes, which, besides the possible characterization of the documentary's expressive means, raises the question of the connection between the content and form of the documentary film. The goal of the theoretical work is to provide a basic introduction to the topic of sports documentaries, which directly leads to the practical part. The practical part is a sports documentary capturing a female athlete's fondness for triathlon. Observing the six- month...

All this in order to find out the form of přestavba in one of the central mass media.
