Deaf members of the LGBTQ community in the Czech Republic
Škrip, Daniel ; Nováková, Radka (advisor) ; Mižigár, Michal (referee)
The bachelor thesis Deaf members of the LGBTQ community in the Czech Republic deals with the deaf minority, the Deaf community, which is a linguistic and cultural minority, and the sexual and gender minority, which forms the LGBTQ community in the Czech Republic. How is the identity created in an individual who is part of the d/Deaf community and at the same time part of the LGBTQ community? Do these two identities form the third identity of the deaf LGBTQ individuals? Do they need to differentiate themselves from the majority and these two communities? As part of the research, the author analyzed interviews with five respondents, found out how the respondents see their own identity, what their experiences with discrimination are and what their love and family life looks like. The author summarizes the research of the LGBTQ community of the deaf from the U.S. and compares it with the unexplored Czech environment. Key words: identity, Deaf community, LGBTQ, minority, subculture, sexuality
