Populace smrku ztepilého při horní hranici lesa v Hrubém Jeseníku
Šenfeldr, Martin
This dissertation presents research results of Norway spruce (Picea abies L. Karst) populations in timberline ecotone of the Hrubý Jeseník Mts. The work is presented in the form of five scientific articles, 3 of which are accepted for publication, or already printed. Two articles are in the form of submitted manuscripts. The first article describes the biometric and age structure of spruce populations, including the assessment of the possibility of their vegetative as well as seed-based reproduction and compares these characteristics between two vertically connected sections of timberline ecotone. The second article analyzes the influence of dwarf pine stands of different cover on the ability of vegetative reproduction of spruce and their height growth. The third article deals with the historical dynamic of spruce trees establishment within timberline ecotone. This are correlated with both temperature characteristics and agricultural land abandonment during the last 100 years. The fourth article deals with measurements of the quantity and directions of sap flow in layering branches as well as parent and daughter trees in Norway spruce clonal groups. The article evaluates the importance of sap flow quantity in layering branch to the total amount of water use by parent and daughter trees. The fifth article substantially extends the fourth article of measurements on more interconnected tree pairs within a longer time series. Additionally, this article includes the drought stress experiment in the daughter tree and subsequent monitoring of changes in sap flow in layering branch.

The report describes a preparation procedure of dwarf pine stands removal in the Hrubý Jeseník Mts. assessing selected hazardous environmental phenomena possibly occurring in case of its realization. The hazards include hydrological conditions change, rill erosion, sheet erosion, intraskeletal erosion, snow movement, soil retention change, increase in visitors movement, timberline and spruce growth line change, and biomass quantity. A calculation of damage to forest owners due to dwarf pine stands removal from woodland is supplemented. The procedure was certificated by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic (Certification No. 101637/2012-MZE-16222/M45).

The report includes a collection of research studies dealing with selected effects of dwarf pine vegetation on abiotic and biotic natural components and potential hazards related to their clearance, proposed with regard to unoriginality of this species in mountain landscape of the Hrubý Jeseník Mts. Various subjects are solved, involving dwarf pine covers spatial extension, relations of dwarf pine vegetation to geomorphological processes, dominantly slope deformations, its effects on climate, hydrological and nival processes, soil conditions and spruce populations in upper timberline ecoton, geobiocenological typology of the Hrubý Jeseník Mts. summit positions, mapping dwarf pine covers, biotope evolution after their clearance and their biomass quantity.

The study summarizes principal natural and social hazards related to planned clearance of dwarf pine covers in the Hrubý Jeseník Mts. and proposes preparation procedure of its future projects leading to their minimalization. The main hazardous factors include change of hydrological condidions, rill and sheet erosion, introskeletal erosion, snow movements, changes of soil rentention ability, increased motion of visitors, changes of timberline and spruce growth and biomass quantity of dwarf pine covers. The report is completed with calculation of damage amounts caused to forest owners due to dwarf pine clearance from forest grounds and some additional economic aspects of this activity.
