The Use of CAT Tools in University Translation Courses: A Case Study Based on Teaching with Memsource
Šanca, Filip ; Baisa, Vít (advisor) ; Svoboda, Tomáš (referee)
Even though CAT tools are becoming increasingly important, and almost indispensable, in the translator's work routine, the academic environment is still very hesitant to implement them into translation and localisation courses. The primary objective of this master's thesis is to analyse and determine how CAT tools are used in translation courses at selected Balkan universities, which is important from the point of view of translation pedagogy as a baseline for further research. The secondary objective of the dissertation is to possibly, depending on the results of the primary objective, devise pedagogical practices that help universities increase the teaching effectiveness of their current methods of using CAT tools. Finally, the tertiary objective is to eventually design an introductory course that could help potentially interested universities to implement CAT tools in their curricula. The main motivation of this master's thesis is that the employment of CAT tools should, in the future, positively affect employability of translation students in comparison with those who do not have such experience. This motivation stems from the fact that there are very few scientific papers and reference works on how to use CAT tools in teaching at institutions of higher education, let alone papers that deal...
Srebrenica massacre and its diverse perception in scientific literature
Šanca, Filip ; Žíla, Ondřej (advisor) ; Otčenášek, Jaroslav (referee)
Srebrenica massacre remains unexplained in many aspects. Views of authors on it vary vastly in almost all respects. The tragedy was misused on purpose as a tool of propaganda. Not only the number of victims, but also the facts alone were altered according to one's particular interests. Comprehensive treatise on the diverse perception probably does not exist; and if, it is purposely distorted again. The aim of my work is not to undoncitionally determine which of the sides were right and which of them considerably changed the history by its uncritical interpretation. I am not going to try to examine the act itself, but the views on it. Secondary literature will thus be the main source of my work. First of all, I am going to outline the historical and political context of Srebrenica massacre. Main topic and core of my work is going to be analysed in the second part, where I am going to focus on the perception of massacre in scientific literature itself. That is in point of view of the participants themselves and of the states of International Comunity that analysed the case from afar. My aim is to examine the particular views and to compare them.
Jews in Habry
Šanca, Filip ; Nosek, Bedřich (advisor) ; Holubová, Markéta (referee)
The Habry Jewish community is not insignificant, but it draws attention to its hidden importance both in terms of the year of the first appearance of Jews (i.e. 1341) and the people who appeared there. Dr. A. Stránský was born there, the commercial council of August G. Stránský's government came from there; not far from Habry, there was the last Yeshiva in traditional schooling in the Czech Lands, the place where the Habry Jews would go to be educated, and where the later Chief Rabbi R. Feder taught Habry's Jewish children. From the population list we can gather that the community there was not always large. From information on which this study is based, and which relates mostly to the period of the 19th and 20th centuries, that is, the time when Jews enjoyed more freedom in their activities and lives, it is apparent that the elevation of Habry was connected with the Jews who lived there. We should remember a doctor's free medical treatment for poor Jews, the founding of the Werfel and Böhm factory, which provided employment for up to 100 people, help to Jewish businessmen in issuing food stamps when poverty was at large, or the establishment of bus transport until Habry's elevation to the status of a town, and many other matters connected with the lives of the Jews. The Habry Jews were an...
